US History

Overview:

Middle School is time when students are gathering the skills and dispositions to be effective learners and citizens. To support this I have laid out US history curriculum that is aligned with Washington State Social Studies standards and focuses on building reading, writing and communications skills that will equip students for the rigorous, content heavy approach (AP) that many will encounter in high school.

The academic year will be focused around 3 core documents:

  • Common Sense
  • The Declaration of Independence
  • The US Constitution

Students will apply reading and analysis strategies to decode these documents and then ask:

  • What events lead up to the production of this document?
  • What impact has this document had on subsequent events?

Below, I have posted some foundational documents for this curriculum. As I develop more I will add to the list.
